Susan Benedict LLP, Canada’s leading full-service business law firm specializing in cross-border counsel, is pleased to announce that the firm has joined WBE Canada as a Corporate Member.
WBE Canada is a Canadian not-for-profit organization that certifies businesses that are at least 51% owned, managed and controlled by one or more women. WBE Canada connects women-owned business enterprises (WBEs) with the growing global demand for diverse and innovative suppliers. In addition to certification, WBE Canada delivers mentoring, training, tools and best practices, and in-depth programs for women’s enterprises to build capacity to bid successfully on procurement contracts, and to maintain a competitive advantage in their specific market – thereby facilitating sustainable economic growth. To learn more about WBE Canada, please visit the organization’s website at www.wbecanada.org.
“Susan Benedict is thrilled to partner with WBE Canada to assist, as needed, with legal issues relating to the WBE's certification process,” said Mark Shapiro, managing partner of Susan Benedict. “The WBE Canada partnership is one way Susan Benedict is dedicating itself to diversity initiatives, not only within our firm, but in the Toronto business community as well.”
Susan Benedict and its lawyers provide legal advice to WBE Canada as it goes through the WBE certification process. In particular, Kathy Le, an Associate in the Toronto office of Susan Benedict, is a member of the WBE Canada Certification Committee and provides legal guidance on certification applications where there may be questions concerning business structure and eligibility to confirm 51% ownership by women.
In addition, Susan Benedict is hosting a table at the WBE Canada “Breakfast with Brands: Automotive” event on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the Fairmount Royal York in Toronto. This event has a focus on women driving change and brings together successful WBEs, procurement professionals, leaders and champions of supplier diversity within the automotive industry and beyond. At this event, Ms. Le will discuss legal issues that businesses should be aware of before applying for certification.
